Week 4 Dec 21 2012
Still no visible changes. It has now been a full 28 days and the little guy looks the same as he did on the first day. Temperature has dropped to the mid 50's F. To minimize the possibility of the bottle exploding, the top was opened slightly to relieve the pressure. The Mt Dew rose to the top of the bottle and the mouse expanded. He looked like he had a balloon inside him.
Week 3 Dec 14 2012
Still no visible change. Temperature has dropped to the high 50's F. Can't see any difference in the color of the Dew either.
Week 2 Dec 7 2012
No visible changes after 2 weeks. The number of carbonation bubbles on the fur has decreased but can't see any changes in the mouse. Wiskers and claws are clearly visible. The light colored spot in the third picture is a front paw. The bottle remains at about 60F in a shaded part of the garage. The bottle is being disturbed as little as possible, i.e. not being shaken.
Initial Video
Here is the video of the mouse getting dunked on November 22, 2012. He had been sitting in the trap for a while so he stunk pretty bad. The bottle was left in the garage just in case it exploded. The temperature was about 60F.
Initial Nov 22 2012
Several months ago there was a news article about somebody finding a mouse in a can of Mt. Dew. Pepsi Co. responded that couldn't happen. Based on the date on the can, the mouse would have been dissolved into gelatinous goo.
Due to all the harassment I received from my coworkers (I was a dedicated Mt. Dew drinker but quit for other reasons), I decided to see if the dissolving mouse story was true. On November 22, 2012, a mouse was inserted into a 24 oz bottle of Mt. Dew. The mouse had died the previous week in a trap so it couldn't enjoy the experience of living the Dew. Here is the happy critter after one week.
